After the wonderful letter from the Minister Amato in La Repubblica about the ballot (he was right) this is just another case of use of letters to newspapers. Congratulations to Gianni Alemanno: I think he writes better than Rutelli.

The mayor's letter explaining his project
"Welcome to the stars U.S. but will enhance our film '
Dear Director,
register the fact that since all of my election small signal that starts from Capitol Hill is amplified by the press beyond measure, to give to every nuance of an absolute value. It is attention that in some ways emphasizes the role that the City of Rome is in the imaginary world but risks overloading undue signs of the hard work we are undertaking for his government. A particularly significant case is represented by articles that appeared in yesterday's Courier and other newspapers. Starting from a story in the Sunday Times, gives credence to the idea that indeed would be my intention to expel the American cinema from the Roman event. Having done directly with the U.S. ambassador to Rome, I hasten to clarify my point of view on this theme, arguing that the whole matter should be reported in its bed, and that a proper assessment can be made only from my statements and programmatic directions.
The "feast" of the cinema, festival and not just 'festival' as in his translation to the international audience (the two words have the same value), showed the limits of meaning and structure well known to the organizers; particularly the second edition was marked by defections, organizational failure in the system, overruns budget.Ma is his basic philosophy that leaves us perplexed: a great festival, with no real competitive value, without a reflection on the market, in which participants are practically spent to fine show, and similar events in the costs are largely borne by those who contribute to promote their work. Acknowledging this is not a sign of carelessness with respect to this fundamental component of the cultural industry, if anything, the opposite is true.
For Italy, the film was a vehicle of identity and culture, a cutting-edge laboratory where they found reason for developing a multitude of genres and activities: writing, directing, set design, music and all expressions of art, craft and technology related to these. That film is also an important medium of exchange especially with American culture. If the great Italian masters have been an example for the U.S. film industry, it is objectively important the role of Hollywood films in the formation of tastes and customs in our country. Not to mention that Italy and Rome have been the privileged and constitute one of the sets for productions around the world.
The Italian filmography has difficult years in the number of productions in its ability to market penetration. The data of last year marks a glimpse of a possible resumption: 90 Italian films will add 31 full international co-productions, while investment grew by 21.4% compared to previous collections in the hall of 44.5%. We are still far from the levels of the past, but that is why we feel the duty to support the work of the entire fund raising. In this way the 'Festival of cinema "can be a tool of strategic value, provided you have the courage to revise the system. We do not think at all, nor have we ever said, that should exclude foreign productions, if anything, needs to acquire content that places it at the level of other international events, a place of confrontation between players, when real competition is open to the market as well as investigating new borders. All of gaining a real central to our national production.
why one of the areas on which we reported move is to take a possible unification with the other great event which involves the cinema in Rome, the David di Donatello award, yes addressed to enhance the Italian experience . There are scant signs of principle which could translate into specific addresses where you can discuss with other stakeholders and especially with organizations that represent the various components of the sector, encouraging their involvement in all stages of decision. The mayor can not and must not go further at this moment: ending I just want to go back to deny rumors and baseless, reaffirming the love and commitment this art is an integral part of our most vital assets. I would also reassure the great interpreters of American cinema and international guests are always welcome and the City of Rome will give them and their production companies, rather than an instrumental and ephemeral media exposure, media best suited to carry out and promote their work.
